Here's some quick shots of my costume: Paying honor to the man behind the Cirrus X-3 Rocketpack, Howard Hughes My Lady Luck 2 guys taking a break from kicking Nazi ass! I still need to: - Get more accurate boots - Add the correct cables to the engines, and add the brass details - File the bottom of the jetpack a little more so the Flaps and move up - add the black to the Radiator - TOTAL repaint of the pack - Thinking of remaking the control gauntlets AGAIN - Remount the Fanblade - FINISH THE RESIN HELMET!!! lol, so I'm no longer squishy head More Pix soon! -Jeff Utinni Last Edited By: Utinni619 11/02/08 17:21:26. I been a rocketeer fan for years, and i collect different memorbilia.I would of loved seeing that jetpack in person. I have this jetpack but its only half of it. It seemed like it has been casted off from another jetback. It is okay. Ill try to post a picture of it later. It was cheap substitute for the MIM. Not really willing to pay 1000 in this economy. This board is dead. I wish all the old users would come back from hibernation

You're free to drop me an email if you ever want to chat though. I've been a Rocketeer fan since before the movie came out. I've had a pretty nice little collection in the past though I had to sell my 'holy grail' (a screen-used hero helmet) due to financial issues and family priorities... I'm still around though. Rob

I know the harness is more of a clothing grade leather that is machine stitched, which is something I DON'T have access to... so I ended up using a 7-8oz fine heavy duty leather and I HAND STITCHED the edging to get a more accurate look...meaning yes the stitching doesn't actually do anything but look good and I'm TOTALLY nuts and crazy!!!! lol Yup, my hands officially went on strike after that, lol! - Jeff Utinni

Jeff, where did you find the leather at? is it a local socal store? I love the harness, you did a great job. I want to try to get my costume close to screen accurrate and yours looks great. Michael

I distressed it a LOT. I folded it, battered it with a rawhide mallet anything to get it to look worn and well used. I also did a worn dye finish on it as well. I need to remake it, work out some of the kinks after wearing it for along time. - Jeff Utinni

Posts: 40 (03/04/09 23:12:23) Moderator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Yeah I know people are working on them, but from what I found when I made mine is that it REALLY needs to be custom made for the wearer. I had to measure and then re-measure and then RE-MEASURE again to get it to work and then found after wearing the pack awhile is it still slide back a bit on me from the weight of the pack. The way the harness is made, doesn't give it a way to tighten/loosen it, the buckles are riveted to the straps. So it's not one size fits all. Any measurements taken will need to account for the jacket thickness and correct button placement. The lower waist strap needs to JUST make it between the bottom and next button, it's a VERY close fit. I would bet that even without the buckles, you're looking around $800 - $1,000+ for a custom harness that is screen accurate. Utinni

I believe the harness cannot be mass produced due to the tight tolerances in relation to the jacket buttons, also the size of the wearer. There would have to be adjustment points on the straps in several locations, which would render the harness inaccurate. Also, those of you who haven't worn the MiM Rocketpack on your back, it is VERY heavy. I haven't weighed it, but I would guess at least 40 lbs or more. It is very uncomfortable to wear. Due to the design of the harness, the weight of the pack wants to shift the harness upward, no matter how tight it is. That fact is visibly present in the movie harness as well... The pack sits low on his back in a lot of scenes. Bottom line, if you want a harness, you got to make it yourself or pay someone big money to closely work with you in constructing one.

Posts: 31 (03/15/09 02:17:55) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I know what you mean,the harness pricing is going to be extremely high...The cheapest one I know one was offering it at 150 but i doubt it will be able to support the rocket due to the weight and it wasnt going to be thick leather.. the mim version is pretty heavy..I know the kit alone weighs about 28 pounds..When the added materials are added to it, it will weigh more..The screen used pack in burbank was pretty heavy as well..I notice the same thing, in photos the harness would ride down. There was only a couple pictures that the harness wasnt sagging on the bottom My plans of right now is to have two seperate harness for the pack..One for costuming and another for displaying. The display harness will be constructed with heavy leather and will have the upper and lower buckles sewn into it. The costuming pack is going to be inaccurrate and more of a comfortable solution since i plan on wearing it for long periods of time and I want something to cut back on the weight on my back..I was going to use an electrical belt and harness until I got an idea at disneyland today...I notice a guest had a baby harness that would be perfect....It came with adjustable straps, and it holds up to 90 pounds...The shoulder and waiste bands were heavy padded. The only problem I see is finding a way to attach the pack to the baby carrier... When the "bib" is on I don't think there would be a space for the shoulder strap to come out and go under your armpit. And looks a bit bulky. I'm not sure if the rocket would hang right on that. If you want a costume version I would suggest the route I did for my first harness and just use 1 piece of thick leather and rivet to thick leather belt blanks to it. If everything works out, I'm in the process of scoring a lower buckle setup, and I will be making a new harness. I'll post my step by step process on making it. In terms of weight, it wasn't as bad as my Proton Pack when it's fully set up with all the batteries for the electonics. THAT'S heavy. The Rocketpack seemed fine. - Jeff Utinni
