What happen to this board? It looks like everyone disapeared after 2006. I see the same posters from 2004-2006, and whooosh they all disapeared.
Lets get this site up and running again. |

I constantly check this board to see if there is anyone posting and it is like a ghost town around these parts! I am in the process of putting together my
Rocketeer costume and would love nothing more than to discuss the process with other Finheads. So, I hope we can get the board hopping again.

Awesome, people are alive...That is awesome. Lets get this site going.. Also, I have a myspace dedicated to the rocketeer...it is myspace.com/therocketeermovie
If you look in the photo albums. Part of my collection is posted in the personal collection album. I just got something amazing today, and waiting to get it in the mail, but Ill post that later. Extreme, how is your costume coming along? How far ahead are you? As of right now, I'm working on my costume too. I been searching around looking for the best deals to make a costume. If you are looking for something maybe I can point you into the right direction. Michael |

Hey Jaime
Nice costume.. you were the one that custom made your rocketpack right? I was considering buying the Monsters in motion (mim) pack but I will hold off because I just spent a lot on a rocketeer item the other day. You did a great job on your pack. I bought this pack shell that a person molded off of his own pack a few months ago..ill try to add a pic...He molded it okay, just had to improvise a lot. I tried building my own from scratch but I lack in hand building skills. Living in the UK has disadvantages since everything costs more to ship, and most rocketeer items are located in united states. I think the only item made in the uk is the wested jacket.. try the website http://www.motorcowboy.com/category/rocketeerboots/ email and ask them how much shipping will cost...The boots are over-priced though, but buying actual dehners will cost you a lot more.. or if you have an ebay.com account look up user: theleatherboutique.com (look up user in advance search /items by seller , its a user name not a website) He custom makes jedi boots, german officer boots and other boots.. or if you want a cheap alternative than try ebay and type jedi boots...the boots that pop up are renaissance /jedi boots...They don't last long. They wear and tear easy. But will be perfect for minimal usage.

Your welcome. Everyone was recomending the motorcowboy boots, but I look for cheaper alternatives since the pack & helmet are a lot. And I'm not
willing to spend a lot in this economy.
The jacket is from South Beach Leather (http://southbeachleather.com/)... Its the cheapest jacket I could fine. I bought the jacket for $175 on ebay. Abbyshot was way to much, and I didn't want to take the risk of getting the wested since it has to be shipped all the way from Uk. . . the wested looks amazing. The jacket i Have is great. The only problem I have with it is the buttons. They are cheap and shinny. I need to replace them with brass. I love your pack, I wish i can build something like that without going to mim. My home made one is horrible, and I suck at paper mache so I decided just to save up for mim. My costume: I have the jacket, helmet, gun, jodphurs, a lesser version jetpack, belt, and as of right now, I'm having the buckles of the harness used in the movie being shipped to me as we speak. Speaking of the harness, do you have anymore pics of your harness? I'm stumped . Where did you get the materials and how did you attach the pack.? I was going to use a cheaper harness, but decided I want to get as close to the movie harness as possible. |

My costume so far consists of two different helmets. I have the Master Replicas helmet but I wanted a more accurate bucket so I purchased the MIM helmet kit. I
have a jacket that was made by Mr. Predicta on the RPF and you can see pics of my jacket here: http://www.moviejackets.com/rocketeer-jacket.php The pics of just the jacket on the mannequin towards
the bottom of the page are my jacket. I have an extensive Rocketeer collection of books, rare japanese photos, cards, and a great new book that I just received
called "The Art and Life of Dave Stevens Brush With Passion" if you do not have it, get it. It is an absolutely amazing book.
The one thing I have been looking for lately are the boots. I have never liked the Motor Cowboy versions so I am searching for other options. I found these on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/CUSTO....m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A3|39%3A1|240%3A1318 and contacted the seller and he said he could do them in brown leather so I may go with that option. As far as the pack goes I am definitely going with the MIM kit. |

Hey Lance,
How much did it cost to have the jacket made by predicta? I wanted a more accurate jacket since south beach, wested, and abby use a different color than the actual movie jacket.. also what is rpf? I see that a lot along the boards but never figured it out... yeah, i don't like the motorcowboy boots that much either..i tried looking up the ebay link, but it turned up invalid item number.. I'm still waiting for my "The Art and Life of Dave Stevens Brush With Passion".. There is a limited edition of 200 copies which is signed by dave stevens before he died,. I preorder it months ago, and was postponed twice....So I'm still in the waiting process.. It is suppose to come out on february 20th, so Im hoping it doesnt get postponed again..It is a leather cover with a extra signature page..I had to get the limited edition one. It is a lot of money, but well worth it. |

The Predicta jacket was a bit more than the wested and abby versions but in my opinion 100% worth it due to the fact that it just doesn't get more
accurate. In terms of color alone I can't stand the other jackets out there. I think the south beach is much closer in color than the abby or the wested.
The Predicta jacket is perfect because he actually made his using the screen used coat. The jacket even has the holes on the sides for the flying harness
wires, it is incredible. When I contacted him to have it made he stated that he would do one last batch because he doesn't have anymore of the leather that
is that perfect color. So, he may not be doing them anymore but it never hurts to ask. Just let me know your email address and I will send you his contact info
as I am not sure he would want it posted on a public forum.
Also, I am not sure what the rules are concerning the posting of other forums so I will say the the RPF stands for Replica Props Forum and if you look that up in any search engine you will find it. Hmmm...I clicked one the ebay link and it seems to work just fine. The auction is not a current auction I know but it should still lead you to the seller. At any rate here is the ebay store: http://stores.ebay.com/TheLeatherBoutique I cannot vouch for the seller as I have not purchased anything from so as always exercise caution. I am still on the fence whether or not to try their boots, but either way it seems like an option. I too thought of getting the super limited edition of Brush with Passion but in the end opted with the more affordable version. I ordered it last week through Barnes and Noble and had it within a few days. So, I take it that was you that won the ebay auction for the buckle set? I most likely will never own any but it is nice to dream as it would be cool to have a top to bottom 100% accurate costume. I can't wait to see the pics when you get them. |

Yeah, I notice the wested and abby shot jacket colors were off, and seem darker. The south beach leather is pretty close, but predicta totally nailed it with
the coloring and accuracy. I saw his jackets, and they look 100% accurate. I thought about getting a jacket through him but decided to get the buckles instead.
I found therpf forum, and I totally remember that site..it is so hard to sign up for them. They only let people sign up every 6 months. I miss the sign up date a month ago, so now i have to wait another 6 months. Leatherboutique looks promising. I found him a couple months ago, but never ordered from him. I know he does german boots. I hate ordering custom measurements because they never fit properly. South Beach leather did boots too for 200, but they have their items made in pakistan, and i really dont want to go through that route again. I kinda dont like the thought of my jacket coming from a swet shop paying people 5 cents a day. Yeah, I was planning to get the more affordable limited 2000 version of the brush with passion, but i found out there was a limited signed edition. It took me about 2 seconds to decide that i wanted it. Dave stevens last worked signed before he died. One of his last signatures. I just had to have it. I have almost all of the rocketeer prints, and heard that the autograph in this book is on an unpublished work of dave stevens. Yeah, I won the buckles on ebay recently. The buckles are super hard to find, and supposedly only 6 exist which i find that hard to believe. i know a person that might know the origin of the buckles when i get them later this week. My ex girlfriends grandfather is a world war 2 pilot that lived in germany years after the war was over thats where he met his wife. He still has friends in germany that were pilots which one is a 96 year old priest, so hopefully i can find info on these. I haven't shown him pictures yet since i havent really had any clear photos of them, I want to wait to show it to him in person. Veedox on this forum owns a set too. Have you seen his costume? His costume is almost 100% accurate. Lucky punk! haha. I think only thing that needs work is his harness. He has the predicta jacket, the mim rocket, mim helmet, and jodphurs, buckles, and dehner ww2 boots. I want to get a 100% accurate costume, but in the end that will cost a much as a cheap car which I am not willing to do. I'm going to stick with my south beach leather jacket and my darker jodphurs. I got darker pants to match the color change of the jacket. All I need is the mim rocket pack and helmet which will be awhile since the buckles put a dent in the ole credit card. Also, I collect other rocketeer memorbilia which takes a dent in the pocket book.If I sold my whole collection ofd rocketeer, im sure i can afford a 100% accurate costume, but i like having the little things like my statues and prints. I havent even included all my items on my myspace page. I have lots more items in my closet in boxes like a cookie jar, rocket pack blue prints, icons marketing ads of the hero helmet that disney was producing until they went out of business and sold the rights to masterreplicas. etc etc I will get the buckles on wednesday so Ill try to post pics once i get them. I will post pics of the limited 200 brush with passion too when I get that. |

Cool costumes and pics, guys! Things have been very quiet here for a while. The faithful finheads are still around I think. I don't have the money to buy
stuff with these days unfortunately which makes discussing new acquisitions kind of depressing... but I haven't lost interest. I'll try to check in
more often but also feel free to email me. dualedges@yahoo.com
I am currently working on another MiM helmet for a guy though so at least I can say I'm doing SOMETHING Rocketeer related even if it's not buying all the cool collectibles I've seen and had to pass up on ebay lately. Rob |

Hi Rob
Sorry to hear that. I know how you feel. Due to this economy my youth services program had to shut down, and all my kids return to the life of crime. And my work hours were cut drastically. Lately, I been really picky on what rocketeer Items I spend cash on..I had to let some kool things slip by too on ebay. I'm holding off on the mIm rocket pack. Also, ,most new rocketeer items by sideshow keep on getting postponed. Sideshow is notorious for having their items postponed. Do you have any pictures of your current work on the rocket helmet? How long does it take you to finish a helmet? |

Ditto on the rocketpack. I've wanted one of the MiM rocketpacks for years but a thousand bucks for it makes it easy to put off.
Below is a pic of the helmet I'm working on. I'm slow as Christmas when it comes to finishing these things but I think I also tend to put a lot more effort into them than many folks. From what I've seen, most guys just cut out the eyes and mouth and then paint it gold. I like to do a lot of tweaking to make it more accurate to the hero style helmet. I only work on one at a time and the process usually takes me at least a few months. It'd be quicker but between having a full-time job, family to take care of and having to do my dremeling outside (since I don't have an indoor workshop) it rather slows the process down to a snail's pace. But the end result is usually pretty nice. I'll post a pic of the last helmet I finished below as well...

WOW is that one of your finished mim lids, if so you've done a fantastic job. I have the MR lid and the MIM lid, but i still need to do the paint job on

That is amazing..I love the detail. I'm strap for cash right now, but if i ever get a mim helmet, I would totally consider having you finish the helmet for
me.
I'm trying to get a complete costume by october for halloween, but I will see how the finances goes in this economy. Also, I hear mim takes forever to fill orders. Let me know when you finish this helmet, hopefully I will have a mim by than. My email is equilibrium09@aol.com |

Hikz, yeah, the unfinished one is the current one I'm working on and the second helmet pictured is one I finished for another guy last year. The MiM helmet
is the best option for an accurate helmet although it has to be made accurate. The MR helmet is cool in that it's made of metal but the exterior of it is
just too inaccurate for my tastes. The one thing the MR has going for it is that the liner on the inside is the most accurate liner you can get. It's not
100% accurate but it's still excellent by comparison.
The paint is fairly simple. I start with a base coat of Testor's Gold spraypaint and then use some rub-n-buff. The weathering is done with acrylics that are just mixed to be kind of a blue-ish/green-gray mushroom color. I just go back and forth adding rub-n-buff and acrylics until I get the look I want. There's not really much of a technique beyond that... I just eyeball it. The painting is the easy part. Making the MiM helmet accurate (dremeling, sanding, etc.) is what takes 90% of the time and hard work. I've been somewhat obsessed with Rocketeer helmets for the past ten years so I'm kind of picky as you can imagine... Thanks for the compliments, guys! Rob |

Very cool to see some activity around these parts. Rob, as I have told you before amazing work on the lids. I have compiled my supplies as per your technical
advice and will be attempting to paint my MIM helmet very soon. One quick question, did you use some type of band sander to taper down the fin? I really want
mine to have that kind of accuracy and so I was really curious about your process of working on that particular area of the helmet.
EvilRocketeer, I have some info for you regarding the MIM kits so I will shoot you an email. Any new info on the buckles yet? |
|||

|||

I actually use a cordless orbital sander for the fin. I won't say it's the *best* way to do it, it's just what I've got to work with. The fin
is probably one of the most difficult things to fix on the helmet in my opinion. I'm sure there's probably a better tool for the job. Hand-sanding is
out of the question though. The fin is so thick it'd take forever to do it that way. The trick is sanding it down so that you avoid inconsistent spots
where it's too thick or two thin or not straight. It's a real pain to do but it makes for a much nicer helmet. Keep us updated on your progress! Rob
