I got the Sideshow Rocketeer Bust today!!!! The bust is pretty cool..I bought two of them. One to display, and another to sit in the closet and collect dust
The bust is limited to 1,000, and both of my numbers are under 51. Yay, low numbers!!!

I'm suprised how well the bust came out. Also, i'm relieved since it finally came out..it was postponed for 6 months in a row..hate when that happens here are several more pics

Cool! I took a good look at it last SD Comic-Con and looked like they did a great job on it. I'm happy to see they are finally out! I'll have to try
and pick one up!

Did they model the helmet from a MR helmet? Sides looks squished.

haha, it must be the camera angle i took the pictures.. The helmet doesn't look that squished in person...Looks proportionate to the body. |

ok, I thought I remembered it being pretty good, but I think the jetpack is a little small in scale, but overall a nice piece! The gum is a nice touch!

Congrats Lonnie,
it is a really great piece. I'm happy how it turned out. I was so disapointed in the dark horse statue, and the master replicas statue was cancelled. It is great to finally see a rocketeer statue/ bust that is worth buying.. The gum was a nice touch..My favorite part about it is the griffith observatory base.. The jetpack does look a little smaller, and the tips of the rocketpack are silver which are suppose to be gold.. Michael |

Just going into critique mode for a second... and none of this is meant to suggest I don't like these versions - quite the contrary - I love them all
This sculpt seems to me to be a bit of the comic and the movie to a degree... kind of just the opposite of the Bowen statue. It's got green eyes which is only a feature seen in the comics (the movie only used smoked grey eye lenses). The helmet reminds me a bit more of the comic look than the movie as well but then the only person that has EVER sculpted the helmet "right" is Kent Melton who created both the Bowen statue and the hero helmet sculpt for the movie. Though the funny thing about the Bowen statue is that it IS just the opposite of this statue. The helmet on that one is what you see in the movie but then they used the comic style costume and rocketpack. One thing I regret is that the Rocketeer came out before the era of 3-D scanning. It'd be cool to have a (nearly) perfectly accurate 3D figure based on the movie designs. The unproduced MR statue that Mike has the prototype of was quite accurate... It's not my "dream" sculpt but it was very nice and certainly would have been the most accurate 3-D representation if they'd produced it. I guess, so far to date, the closest to a truly movie-only version (at least in my opinion) is probably the v. 2.0 Medicom action figure. Anyway, like I said, I love all the sculpts and don't mean to nitpick. It's more of just an "academic" discussion of how I view them...

You and me both, I wish they did the 3d scanning. I wish mcfarlane or neca did a movie figure for the rocketeer but that will never happen........
The person that did the MR Sculpt is from Howard Studios..I contacted him a year ago about the piece before I owned it. He said that Disney came to him, and gave him reference photos and gave him specific details about the rocketeer..He didn't know that Disney gave it to MR to produce...I found out that Disney handed it over to MR during Toy Fair when MR was promoting the statue and helmet with narnia items.. I love the MR Rocketeer Statue..the only difficult part is that I cannot display it..I need to make a custom base to have it stand up... i agree with you about the medicom v 2.0..The figure is amazing, and it looks accurate. Medicom made a new version that is due out this year..It is very cheesy looking...I think so far the V2.0 is the best one of the three.. |
